Participate in David Horvitz' Change the Name of the Days
As part of the exhibition, California-based artist David Horvitz will present a participatory installation inspired by his book titled Change the Name of the Days. David (who made this book with the help of his young daughter, Ela) asks audiences to respond to conceptual prompts for art making—a way to bring a little bit of out-of-the-box thinking into our daily lives. David particularly asked about the community at MECA&D, hoping there would be an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the college to contribute some “art assignments.” These completed assignments will become part of the installation in the ICA’s William Sloane Jelin Gallery for the duration of the exhibition.
We’ve selected a few easy-to-participate-in prompts, and we invite you to choose one or more “assignments” to complete on your own time, using whatever materials you already have access to. No artistic “skill” is required for participation. All that is needed is a little curiosity about the world around us!
Mail, email (ica@meca.edu), or drop off your submissions to the ICA at MECA&D, and they will be added to the installation until the closing date. Any form of documentation will be accepted: photographs, drawings, writings, paintings, sculpture, postcards, mail works, etc... Include your name if you would like to be credited. Or submit anonymously. Everything received will be exhibited and will stay together for future exhibitions. No returns. Works by children and adult children will be accepted.
