About the Exhibition

Mind The Square is a 2-Day Public Performance in Downtown Portland's Monument Square.

Kate Gilmore’s work explores themes of displacement, struggle, and female identity. She is the sole protagonist in her performative videos, in which she attempts to conquer self-constructed obstacles. Within the ICA there will be a survey of past videos and performances, bringing together works from 2004 until the present. This exhibition will also include a newly commissioned performance, which will take place in Portland’s bustling Monument Square. The Monument will be surrounded on all sides by a four foot high cubic structure of hot pink stairs, with women clothed in simple dresses and black flats continuously walking around the memorial.
